Many people mistakenly think "if it is made from fruit, it must be healthy". Unfortunately, many store-bought juices tend to be no healthier than soft drinks, containing added sugars and very little real fruit juice. 100% pure fruit juice does offer most of the same nutritional benefits as fresh fruit, however most of the fibre content is lost. Consuming whole fresh fruit provides you with around 20% of your daily fibre requirements, so why waste this opportunity. One glass of fruit juice does not equal one serve of fruit. It actually takes about 4 serves of fruit to make 1 glass of juice. So, although you may be getting four times the nutrients, you are also getting four times the calories! Furthermore, juicing concentrates the fruit sugar (fructose), which may cause symptoms of Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) in some people.
My recommendations:
1. Choose 100% real fruit juice
2. Limit to 125ml (1/2 cup) per day
3. Dilute the fruit juice 50/50 with water or ice-cubes
