You Survived Christmas with an Eating Disorder. Now What?

For anyone with an eating disorder, Christmas is a really challenging time of year. However, if you are reading this, you have likely successfully navigated the Christmas celebrations and are now breathing a little sigh of relief.

Unfortunately, however, as the holiday season comes to an end and the New Year approaches, it’s very common for us to be having feelings of guilt or shame for the food and drink we have consumed.

With so much talk about being “naughty” or eating “bad” foods during Christmas, it’s not surprising that we feel guilty for enjoying in the celebrations!

Our natural response to feelings of guilt, is to try to remedy it – something the wellness industry has been capitalising on for years with their “New Year, New You” campaigns! Unfortunately, however, new diets and fitness trends are not only unlikely to remedy this guilt, but they are also likely to increase self-judgement and shame.

So, what should you do instead?

1. Spend some time reflecting on this guilt and challenge its reliability. Read about how to stop the food guilt here.

2. Unfollow or unsubscribe from anything that makes you feel bad about yourself

3. Consider setting some healthy and realistic new year’s resolutions, such as those in my article here.

4. Increase your supports during this time.
